What is the Community Police Academy?
The Community Police Academy program is designed to inform and teach
various aspects of municipal policing. (This is not a course to become a police officer.)
The program covers procedures from patrol and investigations, vehicle operations, arrest and control techniques, firearm procedures and communications/911.
What are the Academy's goals?
The Academy's goals are to develop community awareness through education and develop a closer understanding and working relationship between the San Francisco Police Department and communities served.
Participants are encouraged to ask questions and offer comments on the Department.
Where and when are the classes held?
The ten week program are mostly held at the San Francisco Police Academy
350 Amber Drive in San Francisco.
Hours will be from 6:30p.m. to 9:00 p.m., every Tuesday night. Parking is available on site.
What are the requirements to attend?
Participants must meet the following:
· Minimum age of 15 years.
(NOTE: Participants who are 15 to 18 years old must have parental permission to attend the course.)
· Live or work in San Francisco
· No felony convictions.
· No misdemeanor convictions within one year of application.
· Must be currently enrolled in school, or have a high school diploma, or possess a G.E.D.
· Candidates are expected to attend all classes.
What is the selection process?
Community Police Academy participants are selected by the program coordinator through an application process and after a computer check of their identification information. Enrollment is limited to approximately thirty students per class.
