FOR IMMEDIATE NEWS RELEASE

Subject:   MAYOR’S OFFICE AND THE SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE OFFER $20,000 REWARD FOR MARKET ST. HOMICIDE

The Mayor’s Office and the San Francisco Chronicle are each offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the identification, apprehension and conviction of the person or persons responsible for a homicide that occurred on February 25, 2003 at about 4:30 A.M. at 6th and Market St.

Vicente Pascua, an 81-year-old newspaper vendor and San Francisco resident, was walking four blocks from home to 6th and Market in order to catch the streetcar to the Montgomery Muni Newsstand that he operated. At 6th and Market, Mr. Pascua was accosted by one or more assailants, who robbed him and punched him in the stomach. Recovering initially, he returned to his home and asked his wife to call a cab so that he could continue to his job. While waiting for the cab to arrive, Mr. Pascua suddenly collapsed and died as a result of the stress induced by this attack. The S.F.P.D. Homicide Unit is investigating the incident.
