PRESS RELEASE

Subject:          ANNUAL ANTI-DRUG RED RIBBON RALLY OCTOBER 28

The San Francisco Police Department’s School Resource Officers (SRO) will join representatives from local, state and federal agencies, as well as from community-based organizations, in the annual Red Ribbon Rally on Tuesday, October 28, at Aptos Middle School Auditorium, 105 Aptos Street near Ocean Avenue, from 10:30 A.M. to 12:00 noon.  49’er Easton Ramsell will be present to show his support for this program.

Six hundred sixth grade students from throughout San Francisco will enjoy a day of music, dance and spoken word to encourage them to make a public declaration that they will avoid drugs, alcohol and tobacco.

The Red Ribbon Rally came about after the 1985 death of Drug Enforcement Agency Agent Enrique Camerena, who was murdered by drug traffickers.  Youth wear a red ribbon to commemorate his death and to show their commitment to a healthy drug-free life style.  The slogan on this year’s ribbon reads, “We’ve Got the Power to Be Drug-Free.”
