Subject:    SFPD/TRANSGENDER COMMUNITY TASK FORCE RECOMMENDATIONS AT TONIGHT’S POLICE COMMISSION MEETING


Representatives from the police department, the San Francisco Human Rights Commission, Dennis Herrera of the City Attorney’s Office, and the transgender community will discuss progress on recommendations regarding Department transgender policy changes and training programs at tonight’s Police Commission meeting, Wednesday, November 12, at the Police Commission Hearing Room, Room 551, fifth floor, Hall of Justice, 850 Bryant Street, starting at 5:30 P.M.

 

First convened on January 28, 2002, the task force is comprised of police department personnel, the Human Rights Commission, transgender community members, and various community organizations.  The intention of the task force has been to increase the understanding between the Department and the community of needs and expectations of transgender persons, developing Department policies and procedures, increasing police training, refining accountability mechanisms and encouraging access to Department services and jobs. The task force also aims to encourage the recruitment and retention of transgender police candidates and officers.
