Subject: San Francisco Police Department New Year's Eve Advisory
The official city venue for New Year’s Eve in San Francisco will be on the Embarcadero, just south of the Ferry Building. The event is free to the general public. There will be a fireworks display at at Mission Street and the Embarcadero. This family event is alcohol free. No public consumption of alcohol will be allowed. Additionally, for security reasons, no bottle or cans will be allowed into the venue.
Those attending the celebration are encouraged to enter the venue using streets other than Market or Mission. Congestion on these streets becomes a public safety concern and may make it difficult to access the Embarcadero at all, let alone in time for the fireworks. People are encouraged to use public transportation. Muni will be free from New Year’s Eve to New Year’s Day, and BART is offering special fares and adding trains to all Bay area destinations.
Street closures from to include the Embarcadero from Washington to Harrison;
and the Embarcadero from Harrison north; Market east of Spear to the Embarcadero; Mission east of Spear to the Embarcadero; and Howard east of Spear to the Embarcadero.
In light of the level of national alert, there will be a significant police presence all over San Francisco, with no resource spared, to ensure the safety of all those ringing in the new year in San Francisco.
