Subject: Press Conference January 27 On African-American Unsolved Murders
There will be a press conference on unsolved murders in the African-American community on Tuesday, January 27 at 11:00 A.M. in the Police Commission Hearing Room, Room 551, fifth floor, Hall of Justice, 850 Bryant Street. The press conference is a collaborative effort, and include participants Acting Police Chief Heather Fong, representatives from the Homicide Section, Violent Crimes Task Force and the Police Officers’ Association, representatives from Safety Awareness for Everyone (SAFE), the Office of the District Attorney, District 10 Supervisor Sophie Maxwell, Muni, the group Parents of Murdered Children, Westside Mental Health, and Viacom.
The focus of the press conference will be on the unsolved murders of African-American men, publicizing the need for witnesses to come forward to help police investigators solve these cases. To that end, a poster prepared by the SFPD featuring the photos of the victims will be shown. The posters will be handed out to the victims’ mothers, some of whom will be present at the conference, to distribute in their neighborhood. The poster will be increased in size for display at select San Francisco bus shelters.
A quilt commemorating the victims, the inspiration of the Rev. Cordell Hawkins, will be on display.
