Subject: San Francisco Seek Witnesses In Hate Crime Assault
The San Francisco Police Department Hate Crimes Unit is looking for persons who may have witnessed an assault/hate crime that occurred on Tuesday, May 4, 2004 on the 2600 block of Sutter Street at Baker at about 7:00 P.M. In that incident, the victim, a 54-year-old African-American man, was crossing Sutter Street mid-block when the driver of a pickup truck stopped and, using an epithet, ordered the victim to get out of his way and spat at the victim through the truck’s open window. In grabbing the passenger door of the truck, the victim was pinned between the pickup and a parked vehicle as the suspect drove off. The victim suffered major injuries to his leg and remains hospitalized. The driver of the pickup, described as a white Dodge Ram, is a white male adult, 40-45 years old, with no further description.
