Subject:     Arrest In April 2003 Jewel Heist

Last Thursday, June 3, San Francisco police arrested a man in New York wanted for an April 2003 San Francisco jewelry heist at Lang Antique and Estate Jewelry, 323 Sutter Street.  San Francisco police took Dino Smith, 45, into custody in Queens after San Francisco police inspectors followed leads that led to the arrest.

Dino Smith, his brother Troy, and a third accomplice, George Turner, robbed the victims at gunpoint inside the store.  Police arrested Turner shortly after the heist.  Troy Smith remains at large.  Dino Smith awaits extradition from New York. The robbery attracted national attention when it was featured on television’s “America Most Wanted.”

The arrest demonstrates the meticulous and dogged work of Inspectors Dan Gardner and Dan Leydon of the SFPD Robbery Section, who worked on the case for over a year, developing information that finally led to Smith’s arrest.
