Subject:    SFPD Participates In National Night Out August 3


The San Francisco Police Department and the Safety Network Program (a member of the Mayor’s Neighborhood Crime Prevention Program) will again this year sponsor National Night Out events on Tuesday, August 3 in five SFPD districts.  National Night Out: America’s Night Out Against Crime is held annually on the first Tuesday of August across the country to promote neighborhood involvement to help stem crime through strengthening police-community relations and encouraging neighborhood camaraderie by hosting a number of neighborhood events.  In San Francisco, events will be held in five police districts, with officers from the district police stations participating.  The district events are:

     Park District.  Waller Street cut-off near Stanyan Street by Park Police Station, 6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M.  Food, information, safety discussions and celebration. Contact person: Ginger Martin, Haight Ashbury Free Clinics, Inc., 621-9553.

     Richmond District.  7th Avenue Mini-Park between Geary and Anza, 6:00-8:00 P.M.  Barbecue and potluck.  Contact person: Kavoos Bassiri, RAMS, 668-5955.

     Northern District.  Fillmore Mini-Park across from Northern Station, Fillmore and Turk streets, 7:30 P.M.  Community/police neighborhood walk and candlelight vigil for peace.  Contact person: Judy Edmond, Operation Contact Safety Network Program, 921-4195.

     Taraval District.  Sunset Neighborhood Beacon Center, 3925 Noreiga Street at 46th Avenue, 5:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M.  Barbecue and entertainment and program presentation at 6:00 P.M..  Contact person: Megan Agee, 759-3690.

     Southern District.  International Institute celebration at Yerba Buena Gardens Amphitheater, Folsom Street between 3rd and 4th streets, 6:00 P.M.-10:00 P.M.. Food, face painting, community safety tips and celebration, poetry reading and special outdoor showing of the film, “Monsters, Inc.,” beginning at 8:00 P.M.!
