Subject:    San Francisco Police Arrest Serial Robbery Suspect

San Francisco police arrested a man yesterday afternoon, August 12, for a series of armed robberies in which the robber targeted lone male pedestrians carrying bags designed to carry laptop computers. Taken into custody was David Arkeen Evans, 18, a sometime resident of San Francisco.

The series of six armed robberies began on August 6 on the 100 block of Cole Street. Subsequent robberies occurred on August 9 at Ellis and Broderick streets and Clayton and Oak streets; on August 10 on the unit block of Locksley Avenue and the 2500 block of Franklin Street; and on August 11 at Golden Gate and Masonic avenues.

In all of the incidents, Evans would approach the pedestrian, brandish a semiautomatic handgun, and demand the victim’s laptop computer and other possessions. After the robberies, Evans would enter a vehicle to make his getaway. Because some of the victims were able to obtain a partial license plate number, the investigating inspector, John Peterson, coordinated his investigation with members of the patrol force, some of whom remembered having towed a vehicle that matched the description of the suspect vehicle. Officers from Park and Northern police stations and Robbery personnel located the vehicle and the suspect, and Evans was taken into custody without incident.
