Subject: Night Basketball Returns To Bayview District September 22
After months of collaboration between officers at the Bayview Police District and members of the Recreation and Park Department, the San Francisco Housing Authority and community groups, Late Night Basketball will again begin with a kick-off player draft session on Wednesday, September 22, at the Joseph Lee Recreation Center at Newcomb Avenue and Mendell Street, starting at 7:00 P.M.
Late Night Basketball is an attempt to establish peace in the Bayview by bringing together men from rival neighborhoods so that they can learn to trust and respect each other. It is also an attempt to provide young men with job and social education, since before each game the players will attend a workshop conducted by Bayview community leaders focusing on everything from job opportunities and résumés to parental responsibility.
Ex-San Francisco 49’er players will be on hand at the player draft on September 22. The first league game will be on September 29 and will continue each following Wednesday, with all games played at the Joseph Lee Recreation Center. The championship game will be held on Friday, November 17 at Kezar Pavilion.
