Subject: Arrest Warrant Obtained For Suspect In Homicide Near SBC Park
Today, September 24, 2004, San Francisco Police Department Homicide inspectors obtained an arrest warrant through the District Attorney’s Office for one of the suspects in the stabbing death of 21-year-old Timothy Griffith after Mr. Griffith attended a baseball game at SBC Park last Friday, September 17. The warrant has been issued for Rafael Antonio Cuevas, 22, of San Francisco. He is considered armed and dangerous.
Cuevas was identified through the following means: (1) Associates of Cuevas came forward to police after he failed to return to work on the Monday following the homicide; the white Toyota described as the suspect vehicle had been purchased from his employer; (2) Dozens of tips had been poured into the SFPD Confidential Tip Line in response to media exposure in this case, supplying leads for the investigators; and (3) Because of the large distribution of the flyer showing the composite sketches to the public, the suspects were identified quickly through sources.
The suspect vehicle in this case is a 1997 Toyota Corolla, 4-door white, California License 3VVT705.
Members of the Homicide Section wish to thank the media for their cooperation in this investigation, and again ask persons who witnessed this incident to contact us through the Confidential Tip Line, 415-575-4444.
