Subject:    Annual Anti-Drug Red Ribbon Rally October 28

The San Francisco Police Department’s School Resource Officers (SROs) will join representatives from local, state and federal agencies, as well as from community-based organizations, in the annual Red Ribbon Rally on Thursday, October 28, at Kezar Stadium, Stanyan and Frederick streets, from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.

Over 2,000 fifth- and sixth-grade students from throughout San Francisco will enjoy a day of music, dance and spoken word to encourage them to make a public declaration that they will avoid drugs, alcohol and tobacco.

The Red Ribbon Rally came about after the 1985 death of Drug Enforcement Agency Agent Enrique Camerena, who was murdered by drug traffickers.  Youth wear a red ribbon to commemorate his death and to show their commitment to a healthy drug-free life style
