Subject: Starbuck's Coffee Robbery Series Suspect Arrested
On December 31, 2004, San Francisco Police arrested Ivan Montgomery, 33, of San Francisco, in a series of robberies of Starbuck’s Coffee shops. Montgomery is currently being held in County Jail, charged with seven counts of robbery.
Montgomery is suspected of robbing four Starbuck’s coffee shops in San Francisco between December 19 and December 31, 2004. In each instance the victims, employees of Starbuck’s, were ordered at gunpoint to surrender money from the cash register. On December 31, 2004, an employee of the Starbuck’s at 2018 Market St. saw Montgomery standing in line with customers awaiting service. Montgomery closely resembled the suspect description of the man who had previously robbed three other Starbuck’s shops. As the employee reported Montgomery to security officers, an unidentified customer advised him the shop was indeed being robbed. Security officers took Montgomery into custody as he exited the premises, Police were summoned and Montgomery was placed under arrest.
Robbery Inspectors were able to gather sufficient evidence to have Montgomery prosecuted for all four robberies. Investigators praised the alert Starbuck’s employees and security personnel for their assistance in this arrest and investigation.
