Subject: Buzz The Fuzz May 13
San Francisco police officers will be joining law enforcement personnel from around the Bay Area in Buzz the Fuzz on Friday, May 13, at Justin Herman Plaza, from 11:30 A.M.
to 2:00 P.M. Buzz the Fuzz is an event in which officers get their heads shaved to raise money for kids who have lost their hair as a result of undergoing chemotherapy treatments for cancer. Officers raise the money by gathering sponsors.
Buzz the Fuzz originated in 1994 when a South Wales police officer was in Melbourne, Australia. While there, he visited a children’s cancer ward. Noticing that the kids were upset by their appearance after chemotherapy had left them bald, the officer enlisted Australian officers to get their heads shaved to show that the kids need not be that concerned with their appearance. The event grew into an international fund-raising event, with the money donated to children’s charities.
