Subject: Syringe-Armed Suspect Arrested For Robbery Series
On November 16, 2005, San Francisco Police arrested Jonathan Black, 24, a transient, who had robbed the Banana Republic store, 256 Grant Avenue, on November 13. Black, stating that he was HIV positive, threatened employees with a blood-filled syringe. When employees backed off, Black fled the store with merchandise.
Employees recognized Black when he returned to the Banana Gap store on November 16. They called police and Officers Ed Browne, Tim Mayer, and John Mino arrested him. Further investigation by the Robbery Detail determined that Black was also responsible for an earlier robbery at Fortress Telecom, 878 Sacramento Street, in which he also brandished the syringe and stated that he was HIV positive. Black is currently in custody on multiple counts of robbery.
