Subject:     Pedestrian Safety Campaign Traffic Enforcement On Guerrero Street December 07

The San Francisco Police Department Traffic Division, the Department of Parking and Traffic, the Department of Public Health, the California State Automobile Association (AAA) and public pedestrian safety awareness volunteers will participate in Operation Safe Streets on Wednesday, December 7, at Guerrero Street at 28th Street at 4:00 P. M.

The pedestrian safety campaign, which has focused on various areas in the city, is part of an ongoing cooperative program to draw motorists’ attention to pedestrian rights.  As part of Wednesday afternoon’s campaign, the street will be coned to slow down motorists, a radar speed trailer will be set up, and motorists stopped at a temporary stop sign will be leafleted with pedestrian safety information.  The message will be loud and clear to slow down and save lives.

Good drivers at Wednesday’s traffic safety operation will be issued a “Good Driver Citation.”   The “citation” is redeemable for a complimentary cup of coffee, courtesy of Caffe Roma, and redeemable at its two San Francisco locations.

During nine recent enforcement days, the SFPD Traffic Division issued 965 violations for pedestrian right-of-way violations and for speeding.  The pedestrian safety awareness campaign will continue to focus on the Geary corridor, later branching out to other areas, including 19th Avenue and Park Presidio.

Funding for the pedestrian safety campaign has been provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic and Safety through the Business, Transportation and Housing Agency.
