Subject: San Francisco Police Seek Help In Locating Suspect In Assault On Officers
San Francisco Police are seeking the public’s help in locating a suspect responsible for an assault on police officers that occurred last night, December 13, at approximately 7:00 P.M. in the Richmond district. In that incident, plainclothes officers in their vehicle came upon a stolen vehicle, a 1999 Cadillac, driven by the suspect. The officers followed the car as the driver pulled into a carport. When the officers got out of their car and repeatedly identified themselves as police officers, the suspect attempted to run down one of the officers. The partner of the victim officer discharged his weapon, striking the vehicle. The suspect then fled, first driving on the sidewalk crowded with pedestrians.
Police recovered the vehicle a short while later in the San Francisco Zoo area. Based upon evidence obtained, police have identified the suspect as Rian Leland, 25, of San Francisco.
Anyone with information regarding the suspect is urged to contact Inspectors Lea Militello or Richard Daniele of the SFPD General Work Section, 553-1141, or the Confidential Tip Line, 415-575-4444.
