Subject: San Francisco Police Release Photos Of Subject Of Interest In Investigation Of Explosive Device In Starbucks
San Francisco Police are releasing photos of a subject of interest in regard to the investigation of an explosive device left in the restroom of a Starbucks café yesterday, Monday, January 9, 2005.
At approximately 1:15 P.M. yesterday, San Francisco Police responded to a call that a Starbucks coffee employee had found what appeared to be an improvised explosive device on the floor of the restroom in Starbucks at 1401 Van Ness Avenue. Police immediately responded and evacuated the store and the apartments located directly above the coffee shop, as well as closing off surrounding streets to vehicular and pedestrian traffic. The SFPD’s Explosive Ordinance Division responded and rendered the device safe at about 2:10 P.M.
The SFPD’s Special Investigation Division is investigating the case, and is currently working with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. (A.T.F.). The Police Department is requesting the public’s help in identifying this subject of interest. He is described as a white male, approximately 40 years of age, 6’2”, 200 lbs., medium build; shoulder-length, sandy-brownish hair. He was wearing a blue denim collegiate-style jacket, light-colored or white sleeves, with navy blue and striped cuffs and waistband. He was wearing a hooded-style sweatshirt underneath the jacket.
He was also wearing blue jeans and carried a small black (faded) backpack that was closed and secured by a cloth flap. There were two small open pockets in the back of the backpack. He was also wearing a small black pouch on the right hip side (contents unknown).
