Subject: Arrest In Hot Prowl Home Invasion Robbery
Yesterday, February 6, San Francisco Police arrested a suspect shortly after he committed a brutal home invasion robbery on the 100 block of Linda Street in the Mission District. At about 10:30 A.M., the suspect gained entrance to a residence by kicking in a back door and immediately attacked a 25-year-old woman in her bedroom, punching and choking her. The victim began to defend herself with a hammer, which the suspect wrested from her, using it to strike the victim. After the victim had collapsed, the suspect ransacked the residence, stealing a digital camera.
The victim managed to get to the street in front of her residence and neighbors called police. When police responded, they obtained a description of the suspect and conducted an immediate search and quickly located a man matching the description at 21st and Valencia streets. The victim identified the man as her assailant and police took him into custody.
The suspect is Jerome Houston, also known as Jerome Fortson, 54, of San Francisco. He remains in custody and is awaiting prosecution by the District Attorney’s Office. Houston has been charged with attempted murder, burglary, robbery, and violation of parole. The victim remains in the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Because of the quick and efficient response by Mission police district officers, a violent career criminal has been taken off our streets.
