Subject:

Two Arrested In $300,000 Art Theft

San Francisco Police Inspectors have arrested the husband-and-wife owners of a San Francisco art gallery for illegally retaining two oil paintings valued at $300,000.00 entrusted to them for consignment sale.

During the period July 21-28, 2005, a Beverly Hills art dealer consigned two early twentieth century art works by French painters to Thomas Wandlass, 59, and Nancy Wandlass, 57, owners of the Pacific Heights Gallery. The Beverly Hills dealer was told that the paintings, Les Falaises Cap Frehel, by Gustave Loiseau, painted in 1906, and Portrait de Femme, by Louis Valtat, painted in 1907, had been sold, but the dealer did not receive payment and repeated requests for the return of the paintings were ignored.

In their investigation, San Francisco Police eventually located the paintings in a South San Francisco warehouse and they were returned to the dealer.

Both Thomas and Nancy Wandlass of San Francisco have been charged with fraud, grand theft, and conspiracy.
