San Francsico Police Release Sketch Of Suspects Of "Utility Employee Imposter" Thefts

SAN FRANCISCO POLICE RELEASE SKETCH OF SUSPECTS OF UTILITY EMPLOYEE IMPOSTER THEFTS

San Francisco Police have released a composite sketch of two men posing as employees of a utility company then entering homes and committing thefts. The suspects knock on a victim's door and identify themselves as utility or water employees. Suspects direct the victim to run the water, or bang on pipes, telling the victim that they are testing the water. While the resident is preoccupied, one suspect will search for money and jewelry. On one occasion a victim saw the suspects leave in an older yellow colored van. These suspects have worn reflectorized vests with an identification card on the front left side of the jacket. These suspects are thought to have committed these crimes throughout the Bay Area.

The suspects in these crimes are described as follows:

Suspect #1: Hispanic male, 40 years old, 5'8 -5'10 , 180 lbs., stocky build, receding dark brown hair, wearing orange vest with yellow stripes.

Suspect #2: Hispanic male, 35-40 years old, 5'11 , 160-170 lbs., wearing a dark baseball cap and dark clothes.

Below are some safety tips for residents:

  • Do not open your door for strangers.
  • Verify through your local utility that service workers were sent to your home.
  • Check for identification, and/or clearly marked vehicle.
  • Take a photo, if possible, of the person if you are in doubt of the person's authenticity, but do not allow anyone access.
  • If you have doubts about the person for any reason, telephone the police department immediately.

The sketch is available here
