San Francisco Police Department Mourns The Tragic Loss Of Officer In Fatal Shooting

San Francisco Police are mourning the tragic loss of Police Officer Bryan Tuvera, 28, who was shot to death by a wanted suspect last night, Friday, December 22. In that incident, at

8:15 P.M., uniformed officers encountered a known suspect in the area of 25th Avenue and Lawton Street. The suspect was wanted on a felony warrant for escape from a correctional facility.

Upon observing the suspect, officers set up a perimeter in the area. When the suspect attempted to flee on foot, officers initiated a foot pursuit. The suspect broke into the side door of a residence and entered the garage. The suspect opened fire when officers moved to take the suspect into custody, striking Officer Tuvera. A second officer then returned fire. The suspect then ran to an adjoining area in the garage, where police located him. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officer Tuvera was taken to San Francisco General Hospital where, despite valiant efforts by the paramedics and hospital staff, he succumbed to his injuries. Officer Tuvera entered the San Francisco Police Department on July 1, 2002 as a member of the 205th Police Academy Class. Prior to his assignment at Taraval Station, Officer Tuvera served with distinction at Southern and Park stations. Services for Officer Bryan Tuvera are pending.
