San Francisco Police Identify Suspect In Elie Wiesel Assault Case

San Francisco Police have identified the suspect who accosted Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel at a San Francisco hotel February 1. A half-million dollar arrest warrant was issued for Eric Hunt, 22, of Sussex County, New Jersey, for the following charges: attempted kidnapping, false imprisonment, elder abuse, stalking, battery, and the commission of a hate crime.

Mr. Wiesel had been attending the World Forum at the Argent Hotel, at which he had also been a featured speaker. In the lobby, Mr. Wiesel entered the hotel elevator and the suspect got in with him. The suspect, described as a white male in his 20s, insisted that Mr. Wiesel accompany him to his room on the sixth floor to conduct an interview. At the sixth floor, the suspect forced the victim into the corridor. When the victim began yelling, the suspect ran off down the corridor.

Subsequent investigation of a vehicle inside the hotel garage led to the identity of Hunt.
