San Francisco Police Arrest Serial Bank Robber

Yesterday, May 2, San Francisco Police arrested a suspect in a series of bank robberies, one of which that occurred the day before, when officers from Southern Police Station responded to a call of an attempted suicide at a motor lodge on the 1700 block of Market Street. On arrival police found a man lying on the pavement behind the motor lodge. He had accidentally fallen out of his room window. Police recognized him from a description that had been broadcast after he had robbed the Guaranty Bank of California, 1355 Stockton Street, on May 1.

Taken into custody was Michael Minahen, 45, no local address. He was on Federal parole for bank robbery. In addition to the Guaranty Bank robbery, Minahen is the suspect in three other bank robberies over the past month: United Commercial Bank, 2259 Irving Street, April 26; Bank of East Asia, 520 Montgomery Street, April 17; and United Commercial Bank, 1066 Grant Avenue, April 12.

The United States Attorney's Office will prosecute these cases.
