Police Chief Heather Fong To Attend Ceremony June 30 Acknowledging $1 Million Endowment In Honor Of The Late Sergeant Darryl Tsujimoto

Police Chief Heather Fong will attend a ceremony acknowledging receipt of a $1 million endowment to Pets Unlimited in honor of the late Sergeant Darryl Tsujimoto, officer-in-charge of the SFPD's Canine Unit, on Saturday, June 30, at Pets Unlimited, 2343 Fillmore Street at Washington Street, at 1:00 P.M.

The endowment, established by San Francisco philanthropist Nina Ireland, a longtime admirer of the SFPD's Canine Unit, will be used by Pets Unlimited, San Francisco's oldest non-profit animal shelter and veterinary hospital. The money will help fund many aspects of animal care, including the medical care of retired police dogs.

Chief Fong will deliver a proclamation from the Office of the Mayor in honor of Sergeant Tsujimoto, who died at the age of 41 during a canine training exercise on May 1, 2006. Members of Sergeant Tsujimoto's family will be present, and there will be a demonstration by the Canine Unit demonstrating the exceptional skills Sergeant Tsujimoto instilled in the members of his unit.

The San Francisco Police Department is gratified and honored by this wonderfully generous endowment that will also go toward helping our retired Canine Unit dogs after their years of dedicated and tireless hard work, said Chief Fong.
