Arrest Made In Fourth Of July Shooting

San Francisco Police Gang Task Force officers have arrested a suspect in the Fourth of July shooting that occurred in front of the Ferry Building at about 10:30 P.M. after the fireworks display. Taken into custody yesterday, Tuesday, July 10, was Marcus Fayette, 23, of San Francisco. Through investigative leads, police identified Fayette as the suspect in the July 4 shooting. He was arrested on the unit block of Woodward Street shortly after 5:00 P.M. and taken into custody without incident. Police recovered a semi-automatic handgun in Fayette's pocket at the time of the arrest. He has been charged with attempted murder, grand theft, discharging a firearm in a grossly negligent manner, and participation in a criminal street gang.

In the Fourth of July incident, Fayette brandished a gun after the demand, Where are you from? When one of the victims attempted to push him away, he struck him on the head with the gun. Fayette then began firing at the group as they ran away. One of the victims, a San Francisco resident, 21, was struck multiple times and collapsed on a Muni island just south of the Ferry Building. A second victim, 21, also of San Francisco, was grazed on the back. All the victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
