SFPD To Host Special Olympics Fund-Raising Events October 20

The San Francisco Police Department continues its support of Special Olympics, which provides year-round sports training and athletic competitions for over 3,000 individuals with developmental disabilities in the West Bay area, by hosting three fund-raising events on Saturday, October 20, in the Jefferson and Hyde streets area beginning at 8:00 A.M.

The first event is the ever-popular Tip-a-Cop, in which officers become waiters taking orders instead of giving them, and donate their tips to Special Olympics. Tip-a-cop will be held at the Buena Vista Café at the foot of Hyde Street at Jefferson from 8:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.

Starting at 10:00 A.M., San Francisco police officers and San Francisco firefighters will face off in the Pull-a-Cable Car event near Jefferson and Hyde. Each team will raise donations to go toward Special Olympics.

The Plunge-into-the-Bay event begins at 12:00 noon in Aquatic Park near the location of the Pull-a-Cable Car event. Each brave plunger (including a city official or two?) will raise sponsorships, the proceeds again to go to Special Olympics.
