San Francisco Police Seize Large Cache Of Fireworks In Traffic Stop

San Francisco Police seized a large quantity of fireworks in a traffic stop early today. When Richmond Station officers on patrol in their police vehicle stopped a 1996 Acura Integra at Geary Boulevard and 41st Avenue at 2:10 A. M. for a traffic violation, the officers discovered three large opened boxes of fireworks in the trunk. Among the quantity of various fireworks were 70 three-inch long firecrackers with similarities to the M80 firecracker, which has very high explosive power.

Taken into custody was Jie Cong Huang, 19, of San Francisco. A female passenger, 19, also of San Francisco, was detained and released.

In addition to the fireworks, police found four loaded gun magazine clips and other ammunition in the trunk, plus a bag containing marijuana and another containing Ecstasy tablets. Huang was charged with carrying explosive devices in a car and various narcotic violations. He remains in custody.
