San Francisco Police Safety Advisory For Restaurateurs

The San Francisco Police Department, in conjunction with San Francisco Safety Awareness for Everyone, Inc. (SAFE), is offering safety tips to help prevent restaurant robberies. Recent Bay Area restaurant robberies have involved not only the theft of money from the register, but also thefts from employees and customers.

In an effort to help prevent these robberies, known as take-over robberies, there are precautions that restaurateurs are advised to take. Examples of preventative measures include keeping cash in the restaurant to a minimum; ensuring that two employees are present during opening and closing times; not taking out trash outside after dark; being alert to loitering customers; keeping windows clear of shrubbery and signs; and installing a video alarm and video surveillance equipment.

Detailed restaurant robbery preventative tips are available from SAFE
