San Francisco Police Arrest Suspect In Child Molestation Case

San Francisco police have arrested a suspect for the molestation of a 13-year-old female student. Stephen Pedersen, 45, of San Francisco, a teacher in the San Francisco Unified School District at Marina Middle School, surrendered yesterday morning after a $1 million warrant was issued for his arrest.

Pedersen had been teaching and coaching volleyball for nine years at Marina Middle School before being placed on immediate administrative leave by the SFUSD. The SFUSD notified the San Francisco Police Department when school officials discovered the inappropriate relationship Pedersen had with the student. Immediately after the notification, the Juvenile Division's Special Victims Unit initiated an investigation.

Pedersen has been charged with three counts of lewd or lascivious acts and one count of continuous sexual abuse of a child.

The San Francisco Police Department urges anyone who may have been a victim of the suspect to contact Inspector Liane Corrales of the Juvenile Division, 558-5529.
