PRESS RELEASE

Subject: 212 ARRESTED IN SAN FRANCISCO IN 21 DAY NARCOTICS ENFORCEMENT OPERATION 10-034)

The San Francisco Police Department has arrested 212 suspects as the result of a 21 day enforcement operation that ended on March 21, 2010. Narcotics teams, assisted by officers from various district police stations, in an undercover capacity, purchased heroin, crack cocaine, methamphetamine and other illegal drugs, primarily in the Mission and Tenderloin Districts. These areas were targeted specifically because of the violence resulting from drugs being sold openly on the streets, and in response to community complaints.

Of the 212 arrests, 31% of the arrested persons resided out of town and 35% where either on probation or parole.

This is the second recent major street level narcotics enforcement operation conducted by the San Francisco Police Department in the last six months. A previous enforcement operation concentrating in the Tenderloin in October 2009 resulted in the arrest of 583 suspects. Day to day narcotics enforcement remains a top priority for the Police Department.

The San Francisco Police Department continues to enforce narcotics related violations. Some cases were re-booked while others were sent to various crime labs for analysis for later prosecution. The San Francisco District Attorney’s Office will seek warrants for the remaining cases, pending narcotics lab analysis.
