Avoid the 8 Sobriety Checkpoint for San Francisco on Sat June 2, 2012
12-067
Avoid the 8, San Francisco’s multi-jurisdictional crackdown on impaired drivers, plans a sobriety checkpoint on Saturday, June 2nd at 19th Avenue and Winston Drive.
The enforcement event will begin at 8:30 p.m. and continue until early Sunday morning, said Captain Denis O’Leary of the San Francisco Police Department's Traffic Company.
“We conduct checkpoints to reduce the number of impaired drivers on the streets and highways and lessen the amount of pain, suffering and death that the crime of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs so often brings,” O’Leary remarked.
The California Office of Traffic Safety funds Avoid the 8 through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The campaign joins 40 other similar countywide crackdowns in the state.
